"Once upon a time, there was a Jamaican civil engineer living in New York City who hated his job. He followed his passion, started a sideline business publishing his own books, quit his job, escaped the rat race, ran off to a tropical island in the Pacific, and started a tourism business so he could give tours of the island to pretty girls every day! He now lives a nomadpreneur's dream life, while helping others do the same!" This is his story: Read more at : https://www.jamaicanonsaipan.com/

“TMI”-Too Much Information? My colonic experience in Hong Kong

One of the body maintenance practices I mention in my book, A Clean Cell Never Dies, is the colonic. It’s a great way to thoroughly cleanse the large colon of mucoid plaque, undigested food, impacted feces, parasites, etc., and give the digestive system a chance to reset itself. On my checklist for this adventure was to find a colonic hydrotherapy center in either Thailand or Hong Kong to get one done! (Watch a simple description of the colonic in the first part of this video.)

While here in Macau, I  found Optimum Health with a simple online search, called them up and got a good vibe, so I made a reservation. They’re located in Hong Kong at 54-58 Jardine’s Bazaar on the 2nd floor of the Prosperous Commercial Building. So, I took the Macau-Hong Kong ferry to get there! Here are a few shots of the day’s adventure:

Prosperous Commercial Building

Waiting area
Signing in at the front desk where I completed a 5-page form of health history before beginning the session

My colonic therapist for the session was Amy Poon. We chatted for a while and I told her of my wishes for the session, my own protocols and health practices as well as my prior experience with colonics.  She set the water temperature based on my body temperature. She gave the required insertion instructions, gave me my privacy to prepare, and then returned once I had disrobed and covered up.

On my back ready to start the flow

She started the colonic along with some massaging of my abdomen. Then she added food grade hydrogen peroxide to oxygenate the water–as I had requested–to address any parasites in my system. The session lasted half-hour, and then I was done! I’ll spare you the gory video details of the actual inflow and outflow, but you can see one fellow’s first colonic experience (exactly the same procedure, equipment and setup).

The effect was immediate.  Even though I was on day 7 of an extended water fast and my energy level was a bit low, the boost in energy from the H2O2 as well as from simply removing toxic waste from my system gave me a ton of energy. There are a whole lot more details I could share, but I’ll leave that specifically for my Ageless Adept health blog (please sign up to be notified of new posts)

Optimum was a great choice! Amy was great! She was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions and had a great aura and personality! The price was good (about $65US). (When I get to Thailand, I’ll check out YanHee Hospital which is reportedly a bit cheaper.) I’ll likely be back here at Optimum, however, for another session (sometimes multiple sessions are required for a really deep cleansing)!

Afterwards, before heading back to Macau, I found TWO vegetarian restaurants in a building right next door that I plan to experience when I return!

Harmony Village Restaurant in Hong Kong

With that said, next time you see me, feel free to start a conversation about my colon and bowel movements. After all, I feel like we know each other quite well now!

Vegan Boxing Warrior in Macau!

I’m on Day 5 or so of an extended water fast–no solid food, just water every day all day. So, even though a faster’s energy level fluctuates and can be as high as ever during such a fast (yes, even with no solid food), the standard protocol is to take things easy, get a lot of rest and not to overexert oneself while the body’s natural healing code activates, heals, detoxifies and rejuvenates muscles, organs, bones, etc. (See “Stages of Fasting” at my https://www.fastandgrowyoung.com website)

So, when a friend here invited me to her 90-minute Cardio Boxing class at Warrior Fitness here in Macau, the plan was to sit and watch, snap a few photos and videos, take things easy, get a lot of rest and not overexert myself. I brought my training gear with me just in case I took part. I’d only boxed a few times before and I already have a decent amount of gear with me, but I decided I wanted to be prepared for this match properly, if I were to have one. So, I had a look at these boxing bag gloves reviews and others to ensure I had the best of the best.

So, when I was finally introduced to Agustin Delarmino, the instructor, and told him of my plans to just sit and snap a few shots, it seemed he had other plans of his own for me that day. He handed me a jumprope, turned up the music, got all the participants amped up and there I was!

According to the description on Warrior Fitness’ https://www.warriormacau.com website, “Cardio Boxing combines the skills and movements of boxing with a big dose of high intensity cardio. Designed to burn maximum calories, this class will keep you moving all the time. Less emphasis on technical boxing skills such as defence and sparring, this course is perfect for beginners and those wanting to try something new.”

Well, since the whole point of my “Jamaican” adventures is to try new things around the world, and since the entertainment value alone of seeing an already skinny, Jamaican vegan doing boxing while on an extended water fast should be worth a few visits to my blog, I was in!

We did jumprope, heavy bag, muscle endurance exercises and more! Videos below!

For several weeks prior, while on Saipan, I had already been learning boxing basics (“1, 1, 1, 2-3”) from Mike Rashid’s great Boxing for Beginners series of Youtube videos, but had only done shadow boxing in front of a mirror. This was a great opportunity to experience it and put my training into use with gloves and resistance from real objects in real world.

Before Agustin arrived with my HIS plan for my day, I took the opportunity to don some gloves and test out the heavy bag, mannequins and other bags.
Stomach muscle workout! This was the most challenging given my energy level during this fast
Chatting with Agustin after class
Class participant and fellow faster, Veronica outside after class! (Go for 3 days next, Veronica!)

If you’re ever in Macau, definitely check it out! It was a great experience! Social-wise, there were folks from Macau, New Zealand, the Philippines, China and Vietnam, and all were very friendly and welcoming! Thanks to the front-desk receptionist, Karen, for taking and sending the videos!

Nomadpreneur passive income update: I just made 30 cents! Woo hoo! If you check out my https://www.discoversaipan.com site, you’ll see that I’ve created t-shirts, buttons and stickers, etc with images of Saipan. Similar to the print-on-demand concept I use for my books, I use Redbubble.com to “print-on-demand” the tshirts, etc. Someone just purchased a sticker of a Saipan image!

The sale details:

Retail Price: US$1.95

Manufacturing fee including our facilitation fee: US$1.65

*Total Margin: US$0.30

I’ve sold several tshirts in the months since I launched my page. The point is, you can be anywhere in the world–even boxing in Macau–while your passive income streams generate income for you!

The Prophet rides again! Jamaican in Macau!

“Don’t call it a comeback! I’ve been here for years!” It’s been a long time, but the Prophet rides again!” (Ode to LL, Rakim and Dennis Brown!)

The journey has begun! DAY 1

Before we get to the REALLY fun stuff, the following special intro is for attendees of the writer’s workshop I conducted on Tinian just before beginning this adventure, as well as other aspiring writers and bloggers:

passive income: you do nothing, the money comes.
residual income: you do the work ONE TIME, the money comes over and over.

Hey aspiring authors, one of the advantages of being a self-supporting writer earning passive, residual income that doesn’t require one’s physical presence at any one location, is the freedom to roam! It’s been a long time (3 years since Typhoon Soudelor) since I’ve done it, but I’m heading off the island of Saipan again to do a little nomadpreneuring! You can follow my exploits (and see past adventures in China, Singapore, Laos, Jamaica, Virgin Islands….) at www.jamaicaninchina.com.  In those three years I’ve written/released:

Leaving Saipan on HKExpress’ 6:10am flight!

Once I land, disembark, take the shuttle two stops to the immigration area and make it through the immigration check, I met Aaron at the baggage claim area. Turns out he’s a frequent visitor to Saipan working on worker’s rights.

Aaron at the baggage claim

Air Macau Captain, Ron M., former Saipan resident, now aviation big-shot meets me at Hong Kong airport and we take a train, then bus on the way to the ferry to get us to Macau!

Red pill? Blue pill? According to Ron, there are two ferry options: the blue boats (more stable ride), or the red boats (the motion sickness special!). Um, I think I’ll take the blue pill, please.

The ferry from Hong Kong to Macau.

Smile for the camera!

We took the time to find a vegan restaurant On Thai Loi listed on https://www.happycow.net for future enjoyment once I end this (currently 5-day) water fast I’m on, do a colonic in Hong Kong and resume eating!

The restaurant is across from this little park. Will return another day!

Then, we visited a few supermarkets, vegetable markets, electronic shops to price some cell phones and cameras!

Waiting for Tofu

Escapee guest post: Ken the Hipster escapes to Kyrgyzstan!

Ken, the hipster, is a recent coaching client who sought my advice to bring his “escape from America” dream to life! After a single session, Ken, who was born and lived all his life in New York, embarked on his first-ever trip outside the United States to experience Japan! He enjoyed it so much that upon his return, he immediately booked a flight to Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan is a rugged Central Asian country along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean) where he is now living out his dream life!

Readers of my own Jamaican in China blog know that I’ve written a few books to help people discover their passions, escape from America, and live a nomadpreneur lifestyle. So, I asked Ken which of my books was most instrumental in helping him escape!

Ken, replied,

[begin] “Hmm, This is a really tough question. I do not think there was one particular book/concept that inspired me more than another. ALL your books and concepts had great value in giving me the confidence in escaping the west. It was more like a combination of everything!

“However, if there were any books in particular that set me off to escape…..hmmm…… I probably would have to say there were two.

“The first one was certainly, Jamaican in China for a couple of reasons. Going to Asia has always been one of my number one destination goals. Back then, it didn’t matter which country it was as long it was East Asia (because at the time I was ignorant of the distinctions between South East and Central Asia). Although I did choose Japan as my number one destination, I was always still curious about China and maybe even Korea.” (Download my Jamaican China adventure in ebook form here)

“One powerful reason that your Jamaican in China inspired me so much is because it was a non-biased testimony of your experience while traveling there. It was one of the most authentic experiences I have ever read on the Internet. You talked about the friends you made, a little bit of your romance life, the different foods, HOW you traveled and got to places even though you did not speak the language, the different ways of life and much more. Your books and other articles about your experience in China and other parts of Asia, even today, are of much better quality than most other written works! There’s no similar story of what other people’s experience was like when they were in China or another Asian country that does not “tear down” that country. Many other writers resort to “fear validating” (meaning they validate what our news media and TV shows project on to us about other countries). Even those writers and travelers who may have enjoyed their experience abroad always have to have some sort of negative tone or exaggerate aspects of the culture to dissuade others from having a genuine interest in visiting that country.

“In every forum I read, there is always some sort of one sided bias about China. It’s always a rant, complaint, or whining about certain things that the writer doesn’t like and thus they will end up dissuading others from having genuine interests of visiting that place themselves.

“However, you had a very balanced experience in which you explained all aspects of life in a fair, just, unbiased way so that a reader can have a fair assessment and form his or her own opinion in the matter if they are interested in going there or not. I loved reading about your experience on how you made a lot of friends, how friendly people were, and most importantly the interpersonal relationships that is present in the relationships between people. It is the kind of story that many of those who are stuck in the US, can relate to and would love to experience what you did if they knew what kind of life one could live if they were able to read something that is bias filtered.

“(Living here for one week in Kyrgyzstan, I can say for one thing, that even though it is a different culture and a different ethnic group from China, although they look almost exactly the same as Han Chinese, my experience here almost parallels your JIC book and your blog posts/articles from Laos, Singapore and other places in Asia. For an example, people do indeed stare (out of curiosity), are very hospitable, very authentic, have shown me lots of support, friendly etc. In fact many people have even gone out of their way to introduce themselves just to shake my hand. I’ve had girls actually follow me around in a mall just to have the courage to ask me for a picture with them! It is almost like reading your book was reading some sort of prophecy about what I would experience in Asia. Hence the reason why I am now inspired to write my own book about my life in Kyrgyzstan)

Ken and friends in Kyrgyzstan!

“However, the book that I would say REALLY inspired me was certainly How to Become a Nomadpreneur. The reason most folks cannot travel most of the time is because we are employed. If we do not go to work, we lose our income. So, in order to experience the freedom to live freely anywhere in the world without being chained to an employer it is necessary to freelance or start your own business as an entrepreneur. That way you are free to go any where you want, set your own schedule and be free from being chained to one location. Having an instruction manual on HOW to find ways to make income without the good ol’ American Dream pathway, in going to school for a loooong time, being in debt and finding a “job”, is surely one of the best ways to find freedom.

Ken and more friends in Kyrgyzstan

“The thought of making an income, even if it is not much as what a white collar makes, while being independently located somewhere where you are FREE to dress how you like, eat when you like, work when you feel like, and so on, is the ultimate happiness I can certainly find while nomadpreneuring. Seeing the long list of ideas and plans that were described and explained in the book gave me reassurance that there had to be something I could do to make enough money to live on without wasting my life and years going to a prestigious school just to be chained to a another prison. While thinking about what my life would have been like if I stayed working a job and then comparing it to a livable income and living the way the Jamaican in China lives, I ended up saying “That does it!! I’m outta here!””

Hope that helps!

Ken, the Hipster
https://www.kenthehipster.com

p.s. the other two books that also helped influence my decision to escape were Masculinity 2.0, and Turn Your Passion Into Profit, for similar reasons above. [end]

Thanks, Ken, for sharing your experience and the value of my coaching and books! Let’s start a movement! If you, too, would like to “escape” from America (or any other place you feel trapped), and want to request some coaching help, visit www.passionprofit.com/coaching

A Saipan Soudelor memoir

Back on sunny Saipan after a stint in New York, so here’s a bit of catch-up! Saipan author, Riza Oledan-Ramos and I just recently published a book entitled Drinking Seawater: of storms and survival. It is Riza’s account of her experience during Typhoon Soudelor that hit Saipan on August 2-3, 2015. At one point, during the height of the storm, she and her entire family had to flee their apartment and were outside in the 150-mph winds! It’s an amazing story!

After a recent recognition ceremony at the Governor’s conference room on Capitol Hill, Saipan Tribune reporter, Jon Perez interviewed Riza and me about the book and gave a great review

The short happy tale of the 42 Americans, Canadians and Germans and the Jamaican on Saipan

October 2015. Well, it’s happened again! Back on Oct 12, the island of Saipan was visited by the Holland America cruise ship, the Statendam, and some of their passengers got treated to a personalized Jamaican on Saipan tour experience! Here are some photos from the day!

In years past, I’ve had singer and entertainer Gus Kaipat, Carolinian elder Lino Olopai, Humanities Council director Scott Russell as special guest guides for my tours!

Unlike any other tour available that day, we could boast that we had Robert Hunter, the director of the CNMI museum, as the special guest guide for our clients! Thanks, Robert!

Typhoon Soudelor on Saipan

For those of you who are inquiring, I was not on Saipan at the time of Typhoon Soudelor, but thank you for all the inquiries about my safety as well as the well-being of everyone on island. I’ve been in touch with a few people on Saipan, and while the island was, in fact, battered, there have been no reports of any fatalities. Here are some resources to keep up to date:

The Jamaican on Saipan’s top 10 favorite Country music songs!

Admit it! You’re dying to know what I listen to while
I write my books and enjoy life on Saipan, or during airport layovers while I travel! Therefore, I offer to you:

THE JAMAICAN ON SAIPAN’S TOP 10 FAVORITE COUNTRY SONGS
Following a recent conversation with a friend about the music we listened to growing up, I decided to spend a few hours compiling a list. My favorite country music songs are from the 70s and 80s. (Yes, we listened to all types of music in Jamaica!) In my humble opinion, Country artists/writers have great lyrical dexterity, great melodies, great hooks and represent all around great music making!

The following are in no particular order, but if you’d like to know which song I listen to most often, it would probably be Ronnie Milsap’s He Got You (‪#‎3a‬)

Most of these youtube versions I found have the lyrics onscreen for your contemplation. Please take a listen to a few. Even if country’s not your thing, take a little adventure with me and let me know what you think! Thanks!

1. Your Memory by Steve Wariner

2. Middle Aged Crazy by Jerry Lee Lewis

3. He Got You & Any Day Now by Ronnie Milsap

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBu2sBArxts

4. Foolhearted Memory by George Strait

5. Highway 40 Blues by Ricky Skaggs

6. I Don’t Need You by Kenny Rogers

7. Luckenbach Texas by Waylon Jennings

8. Hard Candy Christmas by Dolly Parton

9. Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue by Crystal Gayle

10. I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool by Barbara Mandrell and George Jones

If you’re hearing any of these for the first time, I’d love to
get your feedback and which ones stand out to you!

As I prepare for the next “Jamaican in China” nomadpreneur travel adventure starting with Macau in a few days, I’ll share my most recent “passionpreneur/follow your passion and do what you love/Jamaican on Saipan/saipanpreneur” adventure!

Now it can be told!

Back in January, ZanyBros, Korea’s biggest video production company (known for their work with K-pop artists in the global “Hanryu” Korean Wave pop culture explosion) , contacted me to help them arrange a video shoot on Saipan for Chinese idol group, SNH48, for their latest release. After months of planning and preparation, an advanced team arrived on March 17, the remaining film crew arrived on March 20, and filming took place from Saturday March 21 to Monday March 23. Here are just a few of the 1200 photos documenting the project with me as location manager along with my project partner, Chang Yoon Suk, PR Director of the Korean Association here on Saipan.
